Little Sisters Program Joins Miss Jefferson County

The Little Sisters program, open to girls in grades third through fifth, will be a mentoring program rather than a competition and is associated with the Miss Jefferson County pageant. The goal of the program is that each little sister will be both a friend and a helper to the girls competing in the pageant, and will also represent the Miss Jefferson County pageant itself.

Many, including Miss Jefferson County director Megann Freese, believe that incorporating the Little Sisters program into the pageant will help the pageant in the future.

“I think the program will help the pageant in the long run. I believe that if we introduce these girls to the pageant at a young age, they will be inspired to compete when they meet the age requirement!” Freese said. “I also think that the contestants will have fun helping out as big sisters and showing these younger girls how to grow within the community!”

The Little Sisters program is the result of former Miss Nebraska Pre-Teen Adaline Linscott wanting to see more pageant involvement in the community. After her and her mother, Debra, met with both Freese, they decided that the Miss Jefferson County Scholarship Pageant would be a great platform to start the Little Sisters program.

“The main goal of this program is to get young girls involved in community service and to educate them on what the pageant is all about,” Little Sisters director Debra Linscott said. “It will also help to generate interest in the pageant for when the girls are older.”

Once a girl has been a Little Sister, she will be a part of the Miss Jefferson County alumni, and if her designated contestant wins the pageant, she will be invited back the following year to watch her pass on the crown.

Other Little Sisters, as alumni, will help in community service projects throughout the year with Miss Jefferson County and participate in fun events throughout the county fair.
